Changing Perceptions in Cinema
Hi, I’m Rufus.
After leaving The Brit School I started auditioning and working on lots of student short films up and down Britain. Those 5:30am starts for a student project in the middle of nowhere were great, I was doing what I loved (albeit for no money).
I was cast in an Amazon TV series Patterns. I remember wanting the part so badly I read an entire body psychology book to buff my chances. I learned how to do the perfect handshake but on the day I was met with “elbow bump” Ugh, Covid. Regardless, I managed to snag the role and filming was a breeze. I worked alongside the director on the days I wasn't needed for acting which is how I started learning about production.
As much as I love acting, the roles I was getting offered were the same old boring parts. Angry teenager roles. Coming out roles. Drug dealer roles (seriously). So I decided to be the change and wrote something different. I created Dashington Productions and started from scratch. Along the way I fell in love with creating films that mean something.
These days I put all of that into promo videos. Years in front of the camera taught me how to make people relaxed enough to look like themselves, and making my own films taught me how to shoot something that looks like cinema. Now I do the same for club nights, brands and performers who want a video that feels like them. Real people, real footage, no AI.
With Dashington Productions, you'll find me working with clients to bring their stories to life, directing everything from the casting to the colour grade of the final edit.
